Chocolate Muffins for Dessert

You probably have a favorite recipe for chocolate muffins, perhaps one you got from a friend or family member. Today is a brave new world for chocolate muffin recipes, so don’t stop at the old favorite. A little research online will reap a wealth of information and idea.

The first idea is to get creative with your use of chocolate muffins. Don’t just make them for a quick breakfast, make them for dessert. When company is coming, put away the cake pans and take out the muffin pans. Make chocolate muffins for dessert and your guests will love you!

One idea is to start with a basic chocolate muffin recipe and dress up the muffin after it is baked. For kids, you can carve a hole in the muffin with a sharp knife and add a little peanut butter and jelly, or a dollop of sherbet, pudding or ice cream.

For a more decadent adult dessert, get some strawberries and dip them in chocolate or buy hand-dipped strawberries. Slice the chocolate muffins and place the chocolate dipped strawberries on top. Then cover it all with fresh whipped cream. Our personal favorite is the fudgy, gooey taste of sliced chocolate muffin with soft vanilla ice cream and warm fudge sauce.

A can fruit compote or fruit sauce is also a good addition. Slice the chocolate muffin or make a large hole in the top and add the fruit and a dollop of whipped cream. For late night parties, add some cognac or rum or brandy to the mix or even a chocolate liqueur.  You can mix the liqueur with the fruit compote or put sorbet or ice cream in the middle of the muffin and pour a bit of liqueur over the top before you add the whipped cream. Warming the filling before you add it to the chocolate muffin is a delightful way to serve the dessert.

Whatever your preference, chocolate muffins are a great way to add a touch of creativity to your dessert table. We guarantee your guests will not be disappointed.
